Trigger warning: Botched female genital cutting procedure

Hannan (pseudonym) shared a horror story about how a doctor accidentally cut too much of her daughter's genitals. The fact is a baby girl's vulva is only 1.5cm. No matter how little is removed, it is significant. The fact that this procedure is done at a general practitioner's clinic with no anaesthesia only add to its harmful medical effects. Do consider the possible physical and mental health repercussions of FGC if you're considering it for your daughter.

I went to a Muslim female doctor, recommended by an uncle.

The next morning, I noticed there was something dangling. To my horror, it seemed like the labia was cut on the top and it was blue-black.

I went back to the doctor, wanted to know what's wrong. She did not see the baby yet, but was holding a container with scissors. I said, “You’re not cutting my girl again.”

When she saw the cut, she kept saying that it's the labia. I insisted that the cut was not meant to be there, the circumcision was completed as the top was removed. She must have cut too much.

She was not apologetic but kept saying the baby will recover. I got pissed off. I kept asking, "Is it meant to be like this?" She claimed the labia might reattach or drop off.

Then, before I got out the door, she admitted she might have cut too much and apologised. I'm still sad.
