What is Survivor Archives?

Survivor Archives is a space and repository for FGC survivors in Singapore to share anecdotes, experiences and/or thoughts about the practice. For a practice that's so common, there isn't a community of (or for!) FGC survivors. We can start to build one together.

Being an FGC survivor can be a lonely experience, but we can change that.

What does a Survivor Archive look like?

Currently, we accept two forms of archives:

  1. Text:
    1. All* styles are welcome! e.g. narrative, reflective, poem, prose and more!
    2. Your archive can be as short as you need it to be, but a maximum of 300 words.
  2. Audio
    1. If writing's not your thing, you can share an oral archive! You can record yourself, or a conversation with a sister, relative, partner or friend.
    2. Non-survivors can share an interview/interaction with a survivor too! You can use our guide to help facilitate the interview: Guiding Questions to Interview Loved Ones who are Survivors of FGC
    3. Your archive should be between 1 and 60 minutes.

Where are Survivor Archives posted?

We'll be sharing your archives on this website, Instagram and Facebook! We'd love to create an online space for FGC survivors in Singapore, for anyone and everyone to know they're not alone.

How do you share your archive with us?

You can email us at endfgcsg@gmail.com.

  1. Textual archives: We would prefer your works in .doc! Otherwise, .pdf and .pages are welcome.
  2. Oral archives: You can send your archives as audio files, or via Google Drive links or other platforms as long as we can access and download them!

Important things to note

  1. ANONYMITY: Unless stated* otherwise, all names mentioned in the archives will be anonymised or censored. Owners of archives will also be anonymised. For oral archives, we advise that you use aliases so we won't have to awkwardly cut your audio! Please let us know if you have used aliases or not in your submission email!
  2. PRIVACY: Be rest assured that we will not be sharing your archives in their original documents outside of the End FGC Singapore team. We understand that it can be difficult to be openly vulnerable, even with an anonymised identity. If you wish to remove your archive from our feed and/or our repository after we've posted, let us know and we'll respect your decision.
  3. MATERIAL FOR ADVOCACY: Your archive will be useful for advocacy projects and engagements! The voices of survivors are strong and powerful to bring about changes. Should we want to include your archive in our projects, we will be sure to consult you for your consent!
